An Open Letter to Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo

Dear Miss Colombia-Universe,

In the world we live today, much has been said about the importance of persevering to reach for one’s dreams. The future is a murky panoramic view of possibilities no one is able to know or foresee. But if you are almost certain that you are about to have your dreams fulfilled, perhaps the most horrific thing that could happen is watch it slip away right before your very eyes.

There is a line I came across as I was reading a book of Stephanie Meyer, a line that is so striking that it rendered me thinking about all the times I’ve spent locked behind my doors because I was so depressed and angry and sad and humiliated. Times when I kept on thinking about how I wish something so magical and thrilling and beautiful never ended. The line reads as:

When life offers you a dream so far from what you can imagine, it’s not right to grieve when it comes to an end.

This is an open letter. An open letter for Miss Colombia Universe, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo who was briefly crowned as Ms. Universe 2015.

You are beautiful and gorgeous. In the Philippines, we often say that “when the Almighty showered beauty, you were at the right spot…perhaps even on the frontline.” And that might be just the case with you.
